Bosch Dishwasher Error Codes

Beyond the well-known E15, Bosch dishwashers use a family of E-codes. E24 and E22 are drainage faults, E09 is a heating fault, and each points to a specific, fixable subsystem.

How Bosch E-Codes Work

A Bosch dishwasher monitors its draining, filtering, heating and water level, and when one falls outside the expected range it stops and shows an E-code. The code names the subsystem, which tells you where to start. Below are the ones we see most often after E15, which we cover separately. As always, cross-check the exact code against your model, but the families are consistent across recent Bosch dishwashers.

Common Bosch E-Codes

CodeMeaningFirst Checks
E15Water in base tray (AquaStop)Dry the tray; find leak if it returns
E22Filter or drain blockedClean the base filter and sump
E24Drainage faultDrain hose, pump, sink connection
E09Heating element faultElement and control; needs service

E22 and E24: the Drainage Family

E22 typically points to a blocked filter or sump, so the water cannot reach the pump. Cleaning the cylindrical base filter and clearing the sump resolves many E22 events. E24 points to drainage failing further along: a kinked or clogged drain hose, a blocked drain-pump impeller, or a clogged connection where the hose meets the sink drain or disposer. Clearing the hose and connection resolves a good share of E24 codes; if it persists, the drain pump needs testing.

E09: the Heating Fault

E09 relates to the flow-through heating element that Bosch uses to heat the wash water. When the element or its control fails, the machine cannot reach temperature, so it flags E09 and dishes may come out poorly cleaned or wet. This is an internal repair that needs a technician to test the element and control and replace the failed part with a model-specific component.

E24 or E09 That Will Not Clear?

If a drainage code persists after cleaning the filter and hose, or you see E09, book a repair. See our Bosch repair page.

The Bottom Line

Bosch E-codes map to subsystems: E15 to the leak tray, E22 to the filter, E24 to drainage, and E09 to heating. Start with the filter and drain path for the drainage codes, and treat E09 as an internal heating repair. Each is a standard OEM fix once identified.

FAQ

What Does E24 Mean on a Bosch Dishwasher?
E24 is a drainage fault, usually a kinked or clogged drain hose, a blocked drain-pump impeller, or a clogged sink-drain connection. Clear the hose and connection first; if it persists, the drain pump needs testing.
What Is the Difference Between E22 and E24 on a Bosch Dishwasher?
E22 typically points to a blocked filter or sump so water cannot reach the pump, while E24 points to drainage failing further along at the hose, pump or connection. Both start with cleaning the filter and drain path.
What Does E09 Mean on a Bosch Dishwasher?
E09 is a heating fault. The flow-through heating element or its control has failed, so the machine cannot heat the wash water. It is an internal repair that needs a technician to test and replace the element.
